David Sweet is the author of “Three Seconds in Munich: The Controversial 1972 Olympic Basketball Final”For those of you as old as I am, the US had never lost an Olympic Basketball championship up until that time. The US appeared to win the game in the final seconds not once, but twice. Each time, the ending was ordered to be replayed, until the Soviets “won” on the third attempt.Due to the Cold War geopolitical situation, the result transcended sports and was a major world news item. And given today’s interest in Russian “special military actions,” it remains of interest today.
